Mesotherapy
What it is... and WHAT IT DOES!!
Mesotherapy is an injection therapy which breaks down fat by
  • injecting medications at the site of the problem;
  • injecting medications into the skin (mesoderm);
  • injecting small doses of the medications.

While you may think mesotherapy is a "new fad", it has actually been in practice for over 52 years. It was first practiced in Europe in 1951 by Dr. Michael Pistor. Dr. Pistor originally used mesotherapy in the successful treatment of pain and a variety of other medical conditions. He later focused on such conditions as cellulite and weight loss.

Dr Johnson and some of his staff have trained with one of Dr. Pistor's prodigies - Dr. Lionel Bissoon of the Bissoon Institute of Mesotherapy. Most of the 500+ physicians currently performing mesotherapy in the U.S. have trained under Dr. Bissoon. He has been featured in many media presentations including 20/20, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours and others.

Instead of employing all of the many different mesotherapy options, Dr. Johnson has decided to focus on the treatment of fat reduction, cellulite, skin rejuvenation and other skin-related areas.

Mesotherapy is a NON-Surgical procedure with no recovery time needed and is performed with no general anesthesia. This recognized medical specialty is a safe and natural alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures.

It involves intradermal injections of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, homeopathic medications, and traditional medications at the site of the pathology (or condition) being treated.

We may use all or any combination thereof for treating various conditions.

All of the medications used are FDA approved, but in mesotherapy, they are used "off label" (for use in conditions other than what they were approved for).

Weight loss with Mesotherapy is gradual and safe and there is an 80% - 90% success rate.

Mesotherapy is currently used for the treatment of cellulite, saddlebags, love handles, knee bulges, resculpting poor results from liposuction and spot fat reduction of abdominal fat deposits of the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, back and "bra bulge" areas. In addition to the above, which we currently perform, the Bissoon Institure of Mesotherapy performs treatment for or is currently finalizing treatment modalities for stretch marks, wrinkles, scars, upper and lower eye lid fat pads, and double chins.

Mesotherapy takes advantage of the dermal (skin) circulatory system. The circulation in the skin is known as "redundant circulation" - since it's like a complex maze.

Once a product is introduced into the skin, it will affect the target tissue. And since the circulation has such a "redundant" aspect (over and over again), the products will continue to circulate in the target area for up to 7 days.

So, in effect, the skin - or "dermis" - acts as a very efficient time release dosing system - permitting tiny doses of medication to be absorbed over an extended period of time.

HOW DOES MESOTHERAPY HELP ELIMINATE CELLULITE?
The "cottage cheese" appearance of cellulite results from a deficiency in the venolymphatic system (the interlacing of the blood in the veins and the fluids of the lymph system). Since mesotherapy injections reach the subcutaneous fat, they can break down fat nodules as well as improve the flow of the venous and lymphatic systems. The mesotherapy treatment of cellulite provides the best result when used in conjunction with an all around wellness regimen including diet, exercise and correcting hormonal and nutrient imbalances.
